The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) is working to raise awareness regarding its Abandoned Grove Abatement Initiative. This initiative can allow for continued agricultural (“Greenbelt”) exemption for property owners, who have pushed abandoned or non-productive groves. Removing groves that are not being actively maintained helps reduce pests and diseases that can affect active groves. The accompanying flyer contains some information about the program, as well as different ways to contact FDACS and its local offices for additional information.
The Dean Mead Agribusiness Industry Team thanks the Indian River Citrus League for bringing this outreach program to our attention. If you have questions, please contact Dennis Corrick at dcorrick@www.deanmead.com.
