David Akins Elected Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC)

Orlando, Fla. – David J. Akins – a shareholder in the Estate and Succession Planning department of Dean, Mead, Egerton, Bloodworth, Capouano & Bozarth, P.A. – has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).  He is one of 140 lawyers in Florida and 2,700 lawyers across the globe to have earned this distinguished honor. Attorneys are elected to be Fellows based on their reputation, skill, and significant contributions to the field by lecturing, writing, teaching and participating in bar activities. In order to qualify for membership, a lawyer must have no less than 10 years’ experience in the active practice of probate and trust law or estate planning.

In addition, Akins recently was appointed chairman of the Estate and Trust Tax Planning Committee of the Real Property, Probate and Trust Law (RPPTL) Section of The Florida Bar.  He has been active in RPPTL for more than 11 years having served in numerous leadership roles.

Akins provides representation in the area of personal wealth planning, with an emphasis on gift planning, charitable planning, estate planning, probate, and the administration of estates and trusts. A significant portion of his practice is related to planning for family-owned and closely held businesses.  He represents taxpayers in gift, estate and GST tax controversies with the IRS. Akins also represents fiduciaries and beneficiaries in disputes involving estates and trusts.

Akins is recognized for his vast experience and knowledge, having been repeatedly selected among The Best Lawyers in America, Florida Trend’s Legal Elite, Florida Super Lawyers and Orlando Magazine’s Best Lawyers.

Akins received his master of laws (LL.M.) in taxation in 1987 from Emory University School of Law in Atlanta, Georgia. He received both his law degree (1984) and his bachelor of science degree in business administration (1977) from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.  He is admitted to practice in Florida and Georgia.
