Orlando, Florida – Charles H. Egerton and Stephen R. Looney were among the featured speakers at the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) University of Florida Accounting Conference on October 14-15, 2010 that was held in Gainesville. Egerton and Looney presented a Federal Income Tax Update that highlighted recent income tax developments, including legislation, regulations, cases, ruling and other administrative pronouncements affecting S corporations, partnerships, LLCs and C corporations.
The UF Accounting Conference is held annually during the Gators’ Homecoming Weekend offering conference attendees up to 10 hours of quality continuing professional education. Presentation topics that were covered this year included: an Economic Update, Business Valuations, Risk Management, and Florida Population Growth, Past Trends and Future Projects.
Egerton is a tax and corporate attorney whose practice emphasizes tax planning for real estate transactions including tax free exchanges, planning to preserve long term capital gains in dispositions of real estate, tax planning for debt restructuring and workouts and tax structuring of joint ventures for the acquisition and development of real properties; negotiating and drafting partnership and limited liability company agreements; mergers, sales and acquisitions of businesses; and the handling of federal tax controversies at the audit, trial and appeals levels. Egerton is the current chair of the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation, the nation’s largest organization of tax lawyers.
Looney represents clients in a variety of business and tax matters including entity formation (S and C corporations, partnerships, and LLCs), acquisitions, dispositions, redemptions, liquidations, reorganizations, tax-free exchanges of real estate and tax controversies. His clients include closely held businesses, with an emphasis on medical and other professional practices. He is a past chair of the S Corporations Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Taxation and he currently chairs Dean Mead’s tax department.
