Dean Mead Sponsors 2018 Florida Tax Institute

Dean Mead is sponsoring the 2018 Florida Tax Institute, presented by the Florida Tax Education Foundation, Inc. on Feb. 28 – Mar. 2 in Tampa.

Lauren Detzel, shareholder and chair of Dean Mead’s Estate and Succession Planning department is a founding Board Member of the non-profit organization that was created to present this educational conference and she also served as the conference chair for the first two years. This annual institute has been organized by graduates and professors of the University of Florida Levin College of Law, home of one of the top tax law programs in the United States.

The three day conference features national speakers on tax, business, and estate planning issues. Steve Looney, chair of Dean Mead’s Tax and Corporate department, will be presenting on Wednesday on the topic, Representing Buyers and Sellers in S Corporation Sales and Purchases. His session will address tax considerations that should be taken into account in connection with sales and purchases of the assets and stock of S corporations, including the effect of the installment sales rules, contingent purchase prices, holdbacks and escrows, necessary representations and warranties, due diligence items and indemnification provisions. The tax effect of making a Section 338(h)(10) or 336(e) election with respect to the purchase of S corporation stock will also be addressed.
