Orlando, Fla. – Dean Mead recently announced that Martin S. Friedman has joined the firm’s Orlando office. Friedman represents a broad range of Florida utilities as lead counsel. Throughout his 38-year career, he has handled 130 utility acquisitions totaling more than $3 billion.
Friedman is widely recognized as a seasoned litigator and transactional attorney representing some of Florida’s largest water and wastewater utilities before the Public Service Commission. He also represents utilities before other state and federal agencies, as well as in their dealings with developers and local governments. He counsels clients on a variety of business issues and disputes involving property boundaries, access issues, easements, quiet title actions, commercial leases and real estate, and contracts.
Friedman appears statewide before trial and appellate courts, as well as administrative agencies. He has handled more than 75 appeals before the Florida Supreme Court and District Courts of Appeal in Florida.
From 1975 to 1980, Friedman served as Assistant Attorney General for the State of Florida, rising to chief of the General Litigation Section.
For a number of years, Friedman has been active in The Florida Bar Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section, Administrative Law Section, and the Business Law Section. Additionally, he’s a member of the Florida Rural Water Association. He also volunteers his time at the Marine Discovery Center in New Smyrna Beach.
Friedman earned his law degree in 1975 from Stetson University College of Law and his bachelor of arts from Florida State University in 1972.
