The Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) has formed a task force to develop recommendations on simplifying and streamlining the registration process for unmanned aircrafts. FAA Administrator Michael Huerta has announced the members of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Registration Task Force (Task Force).
Huerta said that the task force membership represents a range of stakeholder viewpoints, interests and knowledge of the objectives and scope. Task force membership was by invitation only, and participation is voluntary.[1]
The Task Force is scheduled to meet formally from November 3rd – 5th, before developing recommendations on a streamlined registration process and minimum requirements on which unmanned aircraft should be registered, Huerta said.[2] The FAA sees this issue as urgent, given the pending holiday season and the increased interest in unmanned aircraft. The task force is to submit its recommendations by November 20th.
Task force members include: 3D Robotics, Academy of Model Aeronautics, Aerospace Industries Association, American Association of Airport Executives, Air Line Pilots Association, Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Amazon Prime Air, Amazon Retail, Association of Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, Best Buy, Consumer Electronics Association, DJI, General Aviation Manufacturers Association, GoogleX, GoPro, Helicopter Association International, International Association of Chiefs of Police, Management Association for Private Photogrammetric Surveyors, Measure, National Association of State Aviation Officials, National Business Aviation Association, Parrot, PrecisionHawk, Small UAV Coalition and Walmart.[3]
