Orlando, Fla. – Dean, Mead, Egerton, Bloodworth, Capouano & Bozarth, P.A. announced today the shareholders have elected Marc D. Chapman as President of the firm for a three-year term from February 2013 through January 2016. In his new post, Chapman leads the firm’s Board of Directors and more than 100 attorneys, professionals and administrative staff in all four Florida offices. He joined Dean Mead’s Orlando office in 1990 and has been instrumental in growing the firm’s litigation practice. In addition, Chapman has served multiple leadership roles within the firm including the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, Litigation Department Chair and Orlando Managing Shareholder.
Chapman has more than 22 years of experience handling complex business litigation matters with a high-profile client roster in various industries that include banking, construction, real estate, agriculture and commercial landlord/tenant and probate litigation. In addition, his trial experience involves cases in the areas of creditors’ rights, creditor bankruptcy litigation and non compete / trade secret enforcement.
Chapman has been active in a number of professional associations including the Orange County Bar Association, The Florida Bar Board of Governors/ Young Lawyers Division and the Ninth Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee. He is recognized by his peers among the 2013 Best Lawyers® in the practice area of Litigation – Trusts and Estates.
He received his law degree in 1989 from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and his undergraduate degree, with honors, from the University of Florida in 1986.
Chapman succeeds Michael D. Minton who has served as the firm’s president for the past six years and will return to the full-time practice of law. For the past year, the two leaders have engaged in a multi-phased, strategic initiative to ensure a seamless transition. Minton applauds Chapman’s innovative leadership saying, “Marc brings a fresh perspective combined with his client-focused approach to the practice of law. Chapman praised Minton for his service to the firm and added, “Michael has led us through some very turbulent times in the industry. We appreciate his steady leadership over the past six years and I look forward to his continuing service as the firm’s Chair of Business Development, a role in which he is uniquely qualified.”
Minton is based in the firm’s Fort Pierce office. He represents family businesses with an emphasis on generationally-owned agricultural businesses. He assists with their organizational structure, federal income, estate and gift tax planning and business succession planning. He offers his clients extensive experience focusing on tax issues related to agri-business, as well as water resource issues and new innovative uses of land for value added propositions.
