Michael D. Minton Elected as Chair of the University of Florida Law Center Association, Inc.

Michael D. Minton, Shareholder at Dean Mead, was elected as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the University of Florida Law Center Association, Inc. (LCA).  Mr. Minton will serve as the chief executive officer and provide general management of the board’s dealings.  He will report to both the Board of Trustees and the President of the University of Florida.  His new position took effect on September 21, 2013 during the LCA Fall Meeting.

In his opening statements as Chair, Mr. Minton listed the following as some of the goals he wishes to attain during his two (2) year term:

  1. Successfully complete the search for a worthy successor to Dean Robert Jerry, who has announced this will be his last year as Dean.
  2. Promote the UF Foundation goal of funding more endowed eminent scholar chairs for teaching and student scholarships at the Law School.
  3.  Successfully promote the inaugural UF Tax Institute to be held Feb. 19-21, 2014 at the Grand Hyatt in Tampa.
  4. Be a catalyst to encourage collaboration with other colleges at UF and schools and universities across the state to make sure UF Law School is providing quality JD and LLM graduates to meet the ever-changing needs of our economy and community.

Founded in 1960, the LCA is a collaborative group of alumni and associates for the University of Florida Levin College of Law.  The Board of Trustees advises the Dean of the law school regarding preparations for the College’s future.  Their core responsibilities include assisting the college in establishing a foundation for student and faculty programs, scholarships and activities, as well as aiding with fundraising efforts for college and university capital campaigns.  The LCA also offers curriculum and placement guidance.
